Dow, S&P 500 open with fresh records amid earnings

Shares on the major stock market indexes in the United States extended the weekly gains and traded higher at the open on Tuesday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 reaching new all-time highs.

The investors digested the slate of earnings posted by Facebook, Raytheon, Novartis, and others, while the technology giants Google, Twitter, and Microsoft are scheduled to release their reports after the close.

The Dow Jones jumped 0.33%, or 111 points, as the session started, with Cisco up by 1.79%. The Nasdaq 100 moved up by 0.66% at the open with Nvidia soaring 3.85%. At the same time, the S&P 500 advanced by 0.36%. UPS was the benchmark's strongest performer, as it soared 5.38% a minute into the session. The euro stood flat versus the dollar at 9:29 am ET, selling for 1.16124.
