Over 1,000 people protest Australia's climate policy

Over a thousand people in Sydney and Melbourne participated in demonstrations on Saturday, expressing disagreement with Australia's climate policy and the solutions the government offered at the United Nations Climate Conference (COP26) in Glasgow.

Those present protested both the Australian government's handling of the climate crisis, as well as the events that occurred at the COP26 conference, with photos by the media showing them carrying signs with slogans including "Stop funding the climate chaos" and "We need human change, not climate change."

This is the first legal protest in Sydney following the country's COVID-19 lockdown spanning months. At COP26, Australia promised to slowly transition away from coal, cut carbon emissions and decrease deforestation but rejected the global methane pledge.
