Europe closes mixed as COVID concerns prevail

Major European stock markets finished this week's last trading day mostly higher, as the coronavirus pandemic resurged in several countries across the Eurozone prompting new concerns among investors.

Germany, which posted record COVID-19 figures over the past days, added Austria, the Czech Republic and Hungary to the list of countries with a high risk of COVID-19, effectively imposing obligatory quarantine for unvaccinated travelers. Meanwhile, AstraZeneca's shares plunged nearly 7% after the company posted third-quarter earnings results.

The DAX gained 0.07% at the closing bell, with delivery Hero SE soaring 4.63%. The CAC 40 advanced 0.45%, as Renault SA surged 4.72%. On the other hand, the FTSE 100 lost 0.49%, pulled down by AstraZeneca. The euro traded flat against the dollar selling for 1.14455, while the pound increased by 0.34% to $1.34080 at 5:34 pm CET.
