Europe opens mixed ahead of ECB reps' comments

Major stock markets in Europe opened mixed on Thursday ahead of members of the European Central Bank (ECB) Executive Board Fabio Panetta and Philip Lane's remarks on the current state of the economy, largely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Earlier, the European Union revealed its passenger car registrations declined by 30.1% in October. In the meantime, ThyssenKrupp AG reported an annual rise of 18% in its fourth-quarter sales.

The DAX advanced by 0.08% at the opening as Covestro AG grew by 2.71%. On the other hand, the FTSE 100 fell by 0.22%, with Antofagasta PLC decreasing by 2.31%. The CAC 40 stood flat.

Both the euro and the pound sterling went up by 0.13% against the dollar to sell for $1.13383 at 8:55 am CET. The pound sterling also gained 0.13% in comparison to the greenback a minute later to go for $1.35101.
