US closes mostly higher after data, FOMC remarks

Major stock markets in the United States closed mostly higher on Wednesday after some of the data released earlier in the day showed upbeat and some disappointing results. The country observed a decline in initial jobless claims and a rise in oil inventories, the third quarter's gross domestic product (GDP), and personal spending. It also saw a decline in the trade deficit, orders of durable goods, and consumer confidence. Meanwhile, the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) predicted the nation's economy will experience robust growth in 2022.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average stood flat at the close. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq 100 advanced by 0.37% as Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) Inc. gained 5.26%. The S&P 500 went up by 0.23%, with the Hewlett-Packard Company (HP) surging by 10.10%.

The euro declined by 0.42% against the dollar to sell for $1.12024 at 3:57 pm ET.
