Lagarde: Inflation to start falling in January

European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde said that she expects inflation in the euro area to start declining from the beginning of 2022.

In an interview with Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung published on Friday, Lagarde described current inflation rates in Germany and the rest of Europe as "worrying" but stressed the high inflation is not expected to last. "This will calm down again next year. We expect inflation rates to start falling as early as January," she stated.

However, she insisted the ECB will be ready to act and accommodate its monetary policy if necessary, but noted she sees no need for such action at the moment.
