EU should consider mandatory vaccination - Von der Leyen

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen remarked on Wednesday that the European Union should discuss and consider introducing mandatory vaccination against COVID-19 for its citizens.

Von der Leyen stressed the necessity of having certificates that show if one has received a jab, tested negative for the disease, or recovered from it to "overcome the pandemic." She also said the EU should have daily reviews of travel restrictions within its borders and the administration of booster doses in an effort to curb the spread of the new variant of coronavirus, Omicron.

So far in the bloc, Austria imposed mandatory nationwide vaccination starting from February 1, while Greece ordered compulsory jabbing of all the citizens aged over 60.
