Europe closes lower on fresh virus concerns
Major stock markets in Europe closed lower on Thursday, as investors digested the impact of the Omicron coronavirus variant on trading. As the variant started spreading around the continent, some countries have introduced new measures to curb the transmission.
The DAX ended the day 1.35% in the red, with Delivery Hero dropping 6.87%. The FTSE 100 was down by 0.56% at the closing bell, as Darktrace fell 8.60%. The CAC 40 finished the session 1.18% lower, with STMicroelectronics losing 6.44%.
The euro gained 0.06% against the dollar to trade for $1.13179 at 5:34 pm ET, while the pound increased 0.36% against the American currency to change hands for $1.33113 a minute later.
