Bitcoin plummets 17%, Ether down 13%
Major cryptocurrencies continued to fall on Saturday, with both Bitcoin and Ether registering double-digit losses. The world's largest digital currency is now down 22.73% in a month, compared to the all-time high of over $68,000 it recorded in early November.
Bitcoin's worst single-day drop since May 15 came amid a market-wide downtrend in the crypto field. The slump coincided with news of cryptocurrency exchange executives being invited to testify before a United States Congress. Shortly after the plunge, El Salvador, the first country to have made Bitcoin its legal tender, bought another 150 coins.
Bitcoin plunged 17% at 00:28 am ET, selling for $44,554, while Ether lost 13% and went for $3,663 a minute later.
