US, S. Korea start talks on semiconductor partnership

The United States and South Korea had their first Semiconductor Partnership Dialogue teleconference, during which they discussed their cooperation in the chip sector, the latter's Industry Ministry said on Thursday.

The meeting was presided over by US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo (pictured right) and South Korean Industry Minister Moon Sung-wook (pictured left). On that occasion, the Korea Evaluation Institute of Industrial Technology and Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC) signed a memorandum of understanding to, in Seoul's Industry Ministry words, "establish the 'Trust value Chain' [...] that will help boost the competitiveness of their semiconductor industry and supply chains."

Back in November, South Korea agreed to cooperate on its supply of chips with ASML Holding NV. Meanwhile, Raimondo urged Congress to pass legislation that will enhance the US's domestic production of semiconductors.
