France: Tightening COVID measures possible

The French government is considering the possibility of tightening the measures imposed to curb the spread of COVID-19 by the end of the week, its spokesperson Gabriel Attal stated on Wednesday.

Attal mentioned the officials might introduce stricter controls at the country's borders and continue insisting on the importance of vaccination against the virus. He went on to describe the figures regarding the disease as concerning and predicted the number of people treated in intensive care units could surpass 4,000 by Christmas.

Attal's comments come the day after France reported the highest number of infections registered daily in more than a year. At the moment, the country counts 2,792 patients in critical condition, a rise of 24% in comparison to the week before.
