EU approves Microsoft's acquisition of Nuance

The European Commission approved on Tuesday Microsoft Corp.'s acquisition of Nuance Communications Inc. The cash deal, worth $19.7 billion, was first announced in April.

"Based on its market investigation, the Commission found that the transaction, as notified, would not significantly reduce competition in the transcription software, cloud services, enterprise communication services, customer relationship management, productivity software and PC operating systems markets," the European Union body said in a statement, concluding that "the proposed transaction would raise no competition concerns on any of the markets examined in the EEA."
