Europe opens higher as virus concerns ease

European stock exchanges opened in the green on Thursday after reports on coronavirus vaccines and treatment seemingly lifted market sentiment. While a study showed that booster doses of AstraZeneca's vaccine improved antibody levels against the Omicron variant, Pfizer's oral drug received emergency use authorization in the United States.

The DAX grew 0.45% at 9:03 am CET as Continental rose by 3.05% and led the gains concurrently. London's FTSE 100 was 0.13% higher at 9:00 am CET, with mining company Antofagasta, its best performer, increasing 0.91% at the same time. The CAC 40 advanced 0.29% at 9:00 am as aerospace and defense corporation Safran gained 1.17% at 9:01 am CET.

The euro was down 0.09% against the dollar, selling for 1.13281 at 8:59 am CET. The British pound was flat in comparison to the greenback, going for 1.33700 at the same time.
