US open higher, Dow hits record high

Major stock markets in the United States opened higher on Thursday after the newest report showed another monthly decline in initial jobless claims. Traders are now focusing on Baker Hughes's latest report on oil rigs in the country.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose by 0.45% or 164 points at the opening as it reached a new record high, with Dow Inc. increasing by 1.02%. The Nasdaq 100 gained 0.06% as Peloton Interactive Inc. surged by 6.32%. The S&P 500 grew by 0.25%, with Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. expanding by 2.97%.

The euro lost 0.24% to the dollar to sell for $1.13208 at 9:27 am ET.
