ATP welcomes court ruling on Djokovic

The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) issued a statement on Novak Djokovic's visa battle following his court hearing in Melbourne. In the said statement, the governing body of men's tennis circuits welcomed Monday's court ruling and called for "clearer understanding, communication and application" of Australia's entry requirements.

World number one tennis player was detained and held in an immigration facility since arriving in Melbourne after the Australian officials revoked his visa over his vaccination status. The 34-year-old Serb later filed an appeal against the visa cancelation arguing that he had entered the country with a valid COVID-19 vaccine medical exemption.

"In traveling to Melbourne, it's clear Novak Djokovic believed he had been granted a necessary medical exemption in order to comply with entry regulations," said the ATP. "The series of events leading to Monday's court hearing have been damaging on all fronts, including for Novak's well-being and preparation for the Australian Open."
