EU prolongs Russia sanctions for 6 months

The European Council decided on Thursday to renew sanctions against the Russian government for another six months for Moscow's involvement in the ongoing crisis in Ukraine. The measures were first introduced in 2014 and have been prolonged until the end of July 2022.

The restrictions "limit access to EU primary and secondary capital markets for certain Russian banks and companies and prohibit forms of financial assistance and brokering towards Russian financial institutions." They also ban imports and exports of defense material, as well as "dual-use goods for military use or military-end users in Russia," and curtail Russian access to "certain sensitive technologies that can be used in the Russian energy sector, for instance, in oil production and exploration," according to the Council.
