Dow plummets 330 pts at open after banks' earnings

Major stock market indexes in the United States opened in the red on Friday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average shedding more than 330 points, as investors digested earnings reports issued by some of the major lenders.

On the data front, US monthly retail sales report showed a larger-than-expected decrease in sales, with the Census Bureau's gauge moving down by 1.9% in December.

The Dow Jones tumbled 0.93%, or 336 points, at 9:31 am ET as American Express dived 4.01%. The Nasdaq 100 concurrently lost 0.53% with Sirius XM dropping 3.14% at 9:34 am ET. At the same time, the S&P 500 declined by 0.6%, with JPMorgan slid 5.56%. The euro surrendered 0.14% to the dollar, selling for 1.14362 at 9:29 am ET.
