Germany may halt Nord Stream 2 if Russia attacks Ukraine

Germany is considering halting the Nord Stream 2 pipeline in case of a Russian attack on Ukraine, Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated in a Tuesday conference, referencing the growing international security crisis and an ever greater massing of Russian troops on Ukraine's borders.

"It is clear that there will be a high price to pay and that everything will have to be discussed should there be a military intervention in Ukraine," Scholz said at a press conference after a meeting with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg.

Parallel to encouraging NATO allies to diversify their energy supplies in the face of the ever-greater unreliability of Russian exportations, Stoltenberg also said he invited the NATO and Russian representatives to a round of meetings at the NATO-Russia Council after the first series of discussions took place last week in Brussels.
