Germany will not provide arms to Ukraine - minister

German Defence Minister Christine Lambrecht (pictured) said on Saturday that Germany will not supply weapons to Ukraine for the moment, as reported by local media.

"We have to do everything to de-escalate. Currently, arms deliveries would not be helpful in this respect, there is agreement on this in the German government," Lambrecht told the Welt am Sonntag, adding that "the most powerful weapon...is for NATO allies, EU member states, and the G7 to make it clear (to Russia) that every fresh aggression will be answered with massive consequences."

However, the minister noted that Ukraine will receive a full field hospital in February along with the necessary equipment and training, all co-financed by Germany for €5.3 million. Earlier, Estonian and Ukrainian officials blasted Berlin for blocking arms shipments to Kiev by refusing to allow permits to export and transfer German-made weapons.
