UK to probe music streaming market

The United Kingdom's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) announced on Thursday that it will start an investigation into the music streaming market, "paying particular attention to the roles played by record labels and music streaming services." The watchdog intends to find out "whether innovation is being stifled and if any firms hold excessive power."

The CMA said it will focus on the impact on consumers, but it will also assess how business practices in the industry affect musicians, singers and songwriters. The agency will publish a market study report within 12 months, including any next steps based on its findings.
