Biden to nominate first black woman to Supreme Court

United States President Joe Biden said on Thursday that his first Supreme Court nominee will be a black woman. "It's long overdue in my view," he claimed.

Giving remarks on Justice Stephen Breyer's retirement announcement, Biden insisted he still hasn't chosen his successor but insisted it will be a "historical" nomination and that that person will be "worthy of Justice Breyer's legacy." He added he plans to announce his nomination before the end of February.

The US president thanked Breyer for his service, calling him an "exemplary" justice whose opinions were "practical, sensible and nuanced." Earlier, Breyer said he plans to step down in June or July.
