S. Korea to spend $47.36B in chip industry

Korea Semiconductor Industry Association announced on Wednesday that the country will invest more than 56.7 trillion won ($47.36 billion) to expand the domestic production of semiconductors for 2022.

The investment is 10% higher than last year's 52 trillion won ($43 billion), a figure calculated from a survey of its members, including Samsung Electronics Co. and SK hynix.

Big chipmakers are planning to spend 53.6 trillion won ($44.8 billion) in 2022, and smaller companies in the fabless semiconductors and other systems will invest 1.3 trillion won ($1.08 billion).
