US markets open higher as Russia-Ukraine tensions intensify
Major stock markets in the United States opened higher on Wednesday improving from the losses of the previous day. Ukraine declared a state of emergency and called for reservists to join the military.
Russia said that sanctions against it will have a negative effect on the United States. The former condemned Washington’s actions, accusing the United States of wanting a “unipolar world”. On the earnings front, fourth quarter reports by eBay and Booking.com are expected to be released later today.
The Dow Jones gained 0.61% at 9:31 am ET or 204 points, as Intel Corp. gained 1.06% at 9:47 am ET. The S&P 500 rose 0.73% and Nasdaq 100 rose 1.05% at 9:31 am ET. Cadence Design Systems was the best performer on those two indexes, gaining 8.83% at 9:47 am ET.
The euro traded 0.09% higher against the dollar, going for 1.13334 at 9:53 am ET.
