US durable goods orders up 1.6% in January

Durable goods orders in the United States increased 1.6% in January compared to the previous month, reaching $277.5 billion, according to a report by the US Census Bureau released on Friday. The increase was higher than the estimated 0.8%.

Excluding transportation, new orders increased 0.7% and 1.6% excluding defense. Transportation equipment led the rise, gaining 3.4% and totaling $87.6 billion.
