US personal spending rises by 2.1% in January

Personal consumption expenditures (PCE) in the United States saw a monthly rise of 2.1% or $337.2 billion in January, slightly above expectations, the Bureau of Economic Analysis said in its report published on Friday.

The PCE index increased by 0.6% in comparison to the previous month. Without food and energy included, the index advanced by 0.5%.

Meanwhile, personal income remained virtually unchanged in comparison to the previous month, going up by just 0.1% or $9.0 billion. Disposable personal income (DPI) grew by the same percentage, 0.1% or $19.8 billion.
