Saudis, UAE decline to help US with oil

The leaders of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have refused to talk to United States President Joe Biden on support regarding Ukraine and containing a high spike in oil prices, being ever more critical of US's policy in the Persian Gulf and the Middle East, US officials said.

The Saudis have signaled the necessity of the US providing more support for the military intervention in the Yemen civil war, helping the Middle Eastern state with its own nuclear program, and arranging US legal immunity for Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who faces multiple lawsuits in the country, including the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018.

Despite the White House's appeal for more oil imports by the Saudis and the UAE at a time when the oil price has surpassed $130 a barrel, the Gulf countries stated that they will be sticking to a production plan laid down by the Russia-led OPEC, indicating the countries' increasing affiliation with Moscow.
