Europe closes lower amid new sanctions

Major stock markets in Europe ended the session lower on Monday, as investors followed the latest developments on the Ukraine crisis.

The US Treasury Department imposed new sanctions against 15 Russian individuals and one entity, as the UK did the same against 350 individuals and institutions. Meanwhile, Moscow retaliated by imposing sanctions against US President Joe Biden and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

The DAX lost 0.09% at the close, with Delivery Hero down by 2.76%. The CAC 40 fell 0.23%, while Alstom SA decreased by 3.65%. The FTSE 100 declined 0.32%, as Polymetal International dropped by 23.37%. The euro improved by 0.11% against the dollar at 5:28 pm CET, selling for $1.09526. In comparison, the pound grew by 0.36% to go for $1.30486 at the same time.
