US closes higher, Dow up almost 600 pts

Major US stock markets closed higher on Tuesday amid news about the crisis in Ukraine and the new set of sanctions approved during the day.

Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported that Moscow had imposed personal sanctions against US President Joe Biden and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. In addition, the US Treasury Department imposed sanctions against 15 individuals and one Russian entity, while Canada blacklisted another 15 persons. Moreover, Joe Biden signed the Consolidated Appropriations Act, including $13.6 billion to help Ukraine.

The Dow Jones gained 1.82% or 599 points at the close, with Walt Disney winning the race up 4.05%. Nasdaq did not fall behind and added more than 400 points or 3.16%, while Marvell Technology improved by 9.18%. The S&P 500 climbed 2.15%, as Monolithic Power Systems rose 9.56%.

The euro improved by 0.10% against the dollar at 3:58 pm ET, selling for $1.09516.
