Europe closes mostly higher after US, EU energy deal

Major European markets closed higher on Friday amid the Ukraine crisis and its impact on global and European markets.

Before, United States President Joe Biden and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced a joint task force to reduce the European Union's dependence on Russian energy imports. Moreover, both sides agreed on creating a framework for transatlantic data flows. Meanwhile, Moscow declared Ukrainian Air Forces were nearly destroyed, and the negotiations were stalled on the central issues.

The DAX gained 0.22% at the close, with Fresenius Medical Care up 2.90%. The CAC 40 was flat, while Alstom SA decreased by 3.31%. The FTSE 100 rose 0.21%, as Rolls-Royce Holdings improved by 19.78%. The euro was down by 0.07% against the dollar at 5:28 pm CET, selling for $1.09898. In comparison, the pound was flat to go for $1.31879 at the same time.
