Walmart halts cigarette sales in certain stores - report

American retail corporation Walmart Inc. will be ceasing tobacco product sales in a certain number of its stores across the United States, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday.

The decision comes after years of debates within the Walmart leadership regarding the negative health and logistical impacts of tobacco vending, also related to the company's plans to assume a bigger role in the healthcare industry.

Still, Walmart has not as yet specified at what stores will the tobacco selling cease and whether, in the long run, it is planning to implement the decision permanently in all of its business units.
