UK sanctions Russian media over misinformation

British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss announced on Thursday new sanctions against 14 Russian public figures and state media which allegedly spread false information on the Ukrainian conflict.

The sanctions will be imposed on the owner of the television channel Rossiya Sergey Brilev who will no longer have access to his properties nor continue his business dealings in the United Kingdom. Furthermore, sanctions will apply to RT News and Sputnik which will no longer be broadcasted on British television.

Gazprom-Media CEO Aleksandr Zharov and Russian Colonel-General Mikhail Mizintsev are also included in the list, according to Truss. The foreign secretary wrote on her Twitter account that Britain will continue to disclose Kremlin's "lies" and that sanctions will target everyone who is a "shameless propagandist pushing out Putin's fake news and narratives."
