House launches probe into Amazon warehouse collapse

The House Oversight Committee began an investigation into Amazon’s labor practices on Friday, in order to determine what led to a fatal warehouse collapse last year in Illinois.

The committee addressed Amazon’s CEO Andy Jassy in a letter on Thursday expressing their concerns over the health and safety of the company’s workers "by requiring them to work in dangerous conditions during tornadoes, hurricanes, and other extreme weather."

Last December, the warehouse, known as DLI4 in Edwardsville, Illinois collapsed as a result of a tornado which caused the roof to collapse, while 40-foot-tall walls on the sides of the building caved in. Six people were killed in the incident.
