Dow drops 140 pts at close after Fed minutes

Shares on the major stock market benchmarks in the United States ended the session in the red on Wednesday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average plunging 140 points, following the release of minutes from the Federal Reserve's March meeting.

The document issued by the central lender signaled that the Fed would be in favor of trimming its balance sheet by $95 billion on a monthly level, and hinted that "many" participants in the meeting saw the need to hike interest rates by 50 basis points once or multiple times.

The Dow Jones decreased by 0.42%, or 144 points, at the close as Salesforce dropped 4.44%. The Nasdaq 100 dived 2.17% at the same time with Datadog sliding 6.56%. The S&P 500 closed the session 0.97% in the red. Norwegian Cruise Line nosedived 6.8% as the benchmark's worst performer. The euro was flat versus the dollar at 3:59 pm ET, selling for 1.09019.
