US closes mostly lower ahead of earnings season

Wall Street was mostly lower at the close on Friday as investors prepared for another earnings season, set to start early next week. Comments that came from Fed and its senior officials this week seemingly prompted a selloff in Treasury notes and in tech shares. Markets also followed news from Ukraine and Russia.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average index closed with a 0.40% or a 138-point gain as The Home Depot rose by 2.76%. The Nasdaq 100 decreased 1.41% at the close, pulled down by Atlassian's 7.15% drop. The S&P 500 was 0.27% lower at the end of trading with Enphase Energy, its worst performer, tumbling 5.71%.

The euro was flat compared to the dollar, going for 1.08756 at 3:59 pm ET.
