Europe closes mostly lower amid events in Ukraine

Stock exchanges in Europe were mostly lower at the close on Monday with the conflict in Ukraine at the center of attention. A senior European Union official revealed that there is still no consensus among member states about sanctions on Russian oil, while Russia-allied forces reportedly seized Mariupol port. A meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Austrian chancellor Nehammer seemingly did not result in a breakthrough.

The DAX was down 0.64% at the close with Delivery Hero falling 5.71%. In London, the FTSE 100 decreased by 0.67% at the end of the trading session with its worst performer, Prudential, declining 3.81%. The CAC 40 closed 0.12% higher as Societe Generale jumped 5.04%.

The euro was 0.08% higher against the dollar, selling at 1.08856 at 5:32 pm CET, while the pound was flat compared to the greenback, buying 1.30421 a minute later.
