Cook: Antitrust regulation could hurt iPhone user privacy

Apple CEO Tim Cook warned once again on Tuesday that proposed antitrust regulations in the United States and Europe would hurt iPhone users' privacy and security.

"Here in Washington and elsewhere, policymakers are taking steps in the name of competition that would force Apple to let apps on the iPhone that circumvent the App Store through a process called sideloading," Cook stated at the IAPP Privacy Summit in Washington DC. "That means data-hungry companies would be able to avoid our privacy rules, and once again track our users against their will," he added.

The US and European bills seek to prevent Big Tech companies, including Apple, from using their market dominance to lead or force users to use their applications and products over those made by their rivals.
