US opens higher amid data, earnings

Major stock indexes in the United States traded higher at the open on Thursday, after the Department of Labor revealed that jobless claims in the country declined by 2,000 to 184,000 for the week ending April 16.

On the earnings front, Dow Inc., Philip Morris International Inc., and American Airlines Inc. all reported an annual increase in their revenue in the first quarter of 2022. On the other hand, both Blackstone Inc. and AT&T Inc. reported losses in the same period of 2022 on an annual basis.

The Dow Jones gained 0.78% or 256 points at the opening bell as Boeing Co was up 3.08% at the same time. The S&P 500 rose 0.98% at 9:30 am ET, as M&T Bank surged 3.22% at 9:32 am ET. The Nasdaq 100 increased 1.40% at 9:31 am ET, with ASML Holding NV jumping 2.06% a minute later.

The euro added 0.36% against the dollar selling for 1.08937 at 9:29 am ET.
