US mostly lower in premarket ahead of earnings

Equities in the United States traded mostly in the flat territory in the premarket on Friday ahead of the first-quarter earnings reports from Schlumberger Limited, Verizon Communications Inc., and the American Express Company. The country will also see a preliminary update on its services and manufacturing sectors.

Earlier, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said the central bank will consider raising key interest rates by 50 basis points at its meeting in May. He also commented that the ongoing lack of energy supplies around the world has caused global "trade to go in reverse."

The Dow Jones Industrial Average went down by 0.11% at 4:38 am ET. At the same time, the S&P 500 declined by 0.10%. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq 100 stood flat. The euro lost 0.33% to the dollar at 4:39 am ET to sell for $1.07987.
