US markets open lower ahead of earnings week

Major stock markets in the United States opened lower on Monday ahead of the release of new earnings reports this week. Besides, updates continue to arrive about the Ukraine crisis.

On the economic front, Coca-Cola Co. published that its revenue in the first quarter increased 16% annually, exceeding expectations. Besides, Twitter's board might be on track to reach the takeover deal with Elon Musk later today. As for Ukraine, it was learned earlier that US officials met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and according to some reports, Putin is no longer interested in Ukraine talks.

The Dow Jones lost 0.62% at 9:31 am ET or 209 points, while Caterpillar Inc sank 1.50%. The Nasdaq 100 fell 0.66%, with Pinduoduo down by 4.00%. The S&P 500 declined 0.80%, as Schlumberger Ltd dropped by 6.53%. The euro was down by 0.65% against the dollar at 9:28 am ET, selling for $1.07274.
