US opens lower as Dow drops over 250 points

United States stock indexes opened with losses on Tuesday on a big day for quarterly earnings releases. UPS, Pepsi and Raytheon saw their revenue rise in the first fiscal period of the year, with the likes of Alphabet and Microsoft posting their reports later in the day. In data, the US saw a jump in house prices in February, while durable goods orders increased in March. Data on new home sales and consumer confidence is coming up after the opening bell.

The Dow Jones fell by 0.86% or 288 points at 9:31 am ET, as 3M decreased by 2.36%. The Nasdaq 100 declined by 0.99% or 130 points, led by Zoom Video Communications, which plunged 4.76%. The S&P 500 lost 0.65% as Universal Health Services Inc. plummeted 11.46%.

The euro traded 0.29% lower compared to the dollar and went for 1.06815 at 9:33 am ET.
