US opens higher on data, earnings

Major stock indexes in the United States traded higher at the open on Thursday, as investors continue monitoring the latest data and earnings reports. The number of seasonally adjusted initial jobless claims in the country declined by 5,000, while the GDP in the first quarter of 2022 fell by 1.4% on an annual basis.

On the earnings front, Twitter recorded an annual growth of 16% in its revenue. Mastercard, McDonald's, Comcast, Merck and Caterpillar all shared their earnings reports, while Amazon, Robinhood and Apple are expected to reveal theirs later in the day.

The Dow Jones gained 0.58% or 191 points at the opening bell, while the S&P 500 increased 1.32% at 9:30 am ET. Visa led the gains on both indexes, jumping 4.11% at the same time. The Nasdaq 100 soared 2.10% or 273 points at 9:31 am ET, as Meta skyrocketed 16.30% a minute later.

The euro lost 0.50% against the dollar at 9:29 am ET, selling for 1.05028.
