Amazon Staten Island workers vote against union

Amazon employees at the Staten Island warehouse rejected to join the Amazon Labor Union (ALU), with 618 voting against, and 380 in favor.

The Amazon Labor Union noted that more than a thousand employees from the LDJ5 warehouse were eligible to vote while advocating that their workers receive at least $30 an hour, with an average hourly starting pay being $18, as Amazon reported. Also, the union demanded longer breaks and better benefits. However, the company has persuaded its employees to take part in "anti-union" presentations as reported by the CNBC, consequently leading to the results of the ballots.

Earlier, JFK8 Amazon warehouse employees voted in favor of unionizing making them the first US union. The Union was founded by former JFK8-manager Christian Smalls, who was fired after being accused of breaking the social distancing rules amid the coronavirus pandemic.
