Japan says no to immediately cutting off Russian oil

Japanese Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Koichi Hagiuda has claimed that it would be very difficult for Japan to join other countries and to refuse Russian oil imports.

This statement was made on Thursday, during Hagiuda's visit to the United States, as a reaction to the new package of sanctions against Moscow proposed by the European Union.

Due to its limited resources and dependence on Russian oil, Tokyo has no intentions of "immediately" cutting off Russian oil imports, Hagiuda concluded.
