Europe closes lower amid monetary policy concerns

Shares on the major European stock market indexes traded in the red at the session's end on Friday, with investors seemingly worried about the European Central Bank's (ECB) future steps regarding its monetary policy.

Earlier this week, both the United States Federal Reserve and the Bank of England increased their key interest rates, prompting concerns over the ECB's coming decisions.

The DAX was down by 1.64% at the close with Symrise diving 6.36%. The CAC 40 lost 1.73% at the same time as AXA plunged 7.62%. The FTSE 100 slid 1.54% as the session ended with IAG tumbling 8.29%.

The euro rose by 0.48% compared to the dollar at 5:30 pm CET, selling for 1.05919, while the pound added 0.6% versus the greenback at the same time, changing hands at 1.23672.
