US close lower following turbulent session

Major stock market indexes in the United States closed lower on Friday after experiencing both losses and some recovery during that day's session. United States Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond President Tom Barkin remarked that the option of raising interest rates by 75 basis points cannot be ruled out. Earlier, the report on the country's nonfarm payrolls demonstrated no change in the country's unemployment rate.

The Dow Jones closed 0.29% or 96 points lower as NikeInc. declined by 3.49%. The Nasdaq 100 lost 1.22% or 157 points, with Illumina Inc. sinking by 14.63%. The S&P 500 went down by 0.56% as Under Armour Inc. plunged by 25.88%.

The euro gained 0.06% to the dollar at 3:58 pm ET to go for $1.05475.
