US opens lower amid Ukraine conflict

Major stock indexes in the United States traded lower at the open on Monday as the conflict in Ukraine continues. Russian President Vladimir Putin previously stated that his military's operations in Ukraine "will achieve results" certainly. Meanwhile, European Council President Charles Michel had to take shelter in Odessa due to missile strikes.

On the data front, the US wholesale inventories for March will be released later during the day.

The Dow Jones tumbled 1.17% or 383 points at the opening bell, with International Business Machines falling 2.37% at the same time. The S&P 500 decreased 1.44% at 9:30 am ET as APA was down 5.33% a minute later. The Nasdaq 100 plunged 1.85% or 239 points at the open, with Illumina plummeting 5.72% at 9:31 am ET.

The euro lost 0.07% against the dollar at 9:29 am ET, selling for 1.05440.
