EU accuses Russia of cyberattack on Viasat

European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell accused Russia of carrying out an attack on the satellite KA-SAT network, operated by Viasat on the day Moscow launched its military intervention in Ukraine.

"The cyberattack took place one hour before Russia's unprovoked and unjustified invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022 thus facilitating the military aggression," Borrell said and claimed it caused "indiscriminate communication outages and disruptions across several public authorities, businesses and users in Ukraine" and affected several EU countries.

The EU top diplomat branded Russia's alleged actions "unacceptable" and "irresponsible."
