US inflation at 8.3% in April
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for all items in the United States saw an annual increase of 8.3% in April, which represented a slight decline in comparison to 8.5% registered in March and a slim exceeding of market expectations, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics said in its report published on Wednesday. The monthly figure came in at 0.3%.
The index for all times apart from food and energy rose by 6.2% year-on-year. In the same period, the energy index surged by 30.3%. Meanwhile, the food index went up by 9.4%, which is the largest annual growth the figure has seen since April 1981.
On a monthly level, the index for all times except for food and energy increased by 0.6%, and the food one by 0.9%. The energy index somewhat declined, caused by a drop in the index for gasoline of 6.1%.
