EIA: US crude inventories increase by 8.5 million barrels

U.S. commercial crude oil inventories, excluding those in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, increased by 8.5 million barrels to 424.2 million barrels in the week ending May 6, the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported on Wednesday.

US crude oil refinery inputs averaged 15.7 million barrels per day during the week ending May 6, up by 230,000 barrels per day from the average recorded the week prior. Refineries operated at 90.0% of their capacity, while gasoline production grew, averaging 9.7 million barrels per day.

Crude oil imports averaged 6.3 million barrels, 62,000 barrels per day fewer compared to the previous week. Total commercial petroleum inventories rose by 9.9 million barrels.
