N. Korea enters 'severe' COVID lockdown

North Korea has declared a "major national emergency" after detecting its first COVID-19 case, state media reported.

According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), cases of the contagious Omicron variant have been confirmed in the capital of Pyongyang, which marks the first time the country acknowledged any coronavirus infections.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un ordered "maximum" emergency measures, promising his country will overcome the "unexpected" outbreak.
